"Early Risers" is a painting that captures the joy and vibrancy of spring's arrival. In the foreground of the painting, a mare and her newborn foal stand in a lush, green pasture. The sun has just begun to rise, casting a warm, golden light on the scene. The few remaining patches of snow melt away revealing the delicate crocus blooms peeking through the ground. The painting is titled “Early Risers” as it refers not only to the mare and foal who have risen with the sun, but also to the birds flying overhead, the new growth on the trees, and the first flowers of the season who have all arrived sooner than expected. The painting is a celebration of new life and growth as the world awakens with a renewed energy...

The painting is a celebration of new life and growth as the world awakens with a renewed energy, reminding us that with every ending comes a new beginning. In the spirit of spring and new beginnings, I used a new medium for the first time in this painting—gouache paint. When thinned with water, the gouache had the ideal mix of translucency and opacity needed to depict the crepuscular sun rays shining through the trees. Size: 8 in x 10 in
