About seller
Hello, my name is Marcel Quesnel, I am Canadian, and I live as a "snowbird" both in
Cornwall, Ontario, and in Hallandale Florida.
I was born in 1947 in Cornwall and began teaching when I was twenty-three.
I started my profession as a teacher then specialized to become a teacher/librarian and
then returned to teaching History and Geography before I retired when I was 55 years
old. I was always looking for ideas on how to attract the students to new books or how to
get students to come into the library so I was interested in "design/composition/appeal"
and to further this, I took photography classes.
When my wife and I retired, we chose to do things together: I wanted to play
billiards/pool and she wanted to paint. I said "you've got to be kidding." We played
billiards/pool together, we started to paint, and I just fell in love with painting. When the
"artistic muse" comes to me, I could just paint and paint and paint…
My medium is painting with oils on large canvases. I love to observe all which is
around me: a picture in a magazine, the displays in stores, or just people-watching
I then take ideas/visual cues that appeal to me and I compose a painting. My medium is
painting with oils on large canvases. My challenge is to impart on canvas the beauty
which surrounds me: the ocean, the beach, the golf courses and of course the beauty that
is woman. I am trying my hand with portraits and it is very rewarding when the subject is
identified.
As an example, I watched the golf at Pebble Beach in California on tv and I saw
that a certain hole was very picturesque; I then saw a great snapshot of Tiger Woods
waiting his turn to play and I added other elements to create "Another Birdie" ( you can
see this painting on my website: Fineartamerica.com/profiles/marcel-quesnel.html)
I interpret themes or subjects especially ones that highlight the beauty of Florida
living and its activities. I especially love to have the ocean in my paintings as I find the
ocean is forever changing yet it has been there forever.
Lately I am focusing on the "figure" as form of visual language which hopefully
other viewers can interpret and relate to as well as portraits which are both interesting and
challenging. It is quite rewarding to paint a portrait of Giada DeLaurentis for example
and for people to say: I know her, she is on the Food Channel/Network" Then, people
see my art form through my eyes and theirs too. These subject and genres appeal to me as
it provides not only entertainment but also a mode of self-expression.
I started exhibiting in the Cornwall area in the fall of 2011and enjoyed the experience. I hope to continue expressing myself through my paintings for many years to come.
